Gov. Braun Enhances Quality of Place in Southwest Indiana with Transformational, 18-Acre Park

NEWBURGH, Ind. – Indiana Governor Mike Braun cut the ribbon on the new Ohio Township Park in Newburgh today. This is a transformational project that will bring to life 18 acres of park and green space in Southwest Indiana. The project, funded in part through the Indiana Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI), is an example of how the Governor is driving quality-of-place investments unique to Indiana's regions that benefit current and future generations of Hoosiers.

“Through READI, Indiana is accelerating region-driven strategies that are making Hoosier communities destinations where people want to live, work and play,” said Gov. Braun. “This new, transformational park adds to Warrick County’s offerings for residents while creating a draw for visitors and the surrounding region.”

The new, $13 million Ohio Township Park is a vibrant 18 acres designed for everyone to enjoy. The park features a modern playground; one-of-a-kind splash pad; outdoor fitness stations; pickleball, basketball and sand volleyball courts; biking, walking and running trails; and an event launch. The region used $3 million in READI funding to support a pavilion building and picnic and shelter areas, adding community spaces and ensuring the park can be used in all seasons.

Construction of the new park started in 2024 and is now complete. The park is centrally located one mile east of Interstate-69 and alongside the Ohio Township Fire Station and Community Center, making it easy to access for residents across the community and the surrounding Southwest Indiana region. It also offers connections to the Warrick Wellness trail, shopping, restaurants, hotels and workplaces, adding to Newburgh’s appeal as a destination for residents and visitors alike.

Indiana’s READI program is a $1.25 billion investment in regional-led strategies designed to strengthen communities, retain and attract top talent, and increase opportunities for Hoosiers for years to come.

“Growing Indiana’s workforce is critical to the state’s continued economic momentum,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich. “Today’s grand opening is the celebration of an asset that supports quality of place in Southwest Indiana and advances our ability to retain and attract top talent in all corners of the state.”

Southwest Indiana was awarded $95 million in READI 1.0 and READI 2.0 matching funds, with additional project support through Lilly Endowment Inc. grant funds, to grow the region’s quality of place, quality of life and quality of opportunity across Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties. The region’s READI investments are designed to foster population growth and upward mobility by connecting the region’s riverfront with inspiring public amenities, attractions and housing; grow high-paying jobs; improve quality of place for healthier residents; build housing near employment clusters; and capitalize on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing to create new regional opportunities.
